  ALK-Abello Allergen Immunotherapy Tablet

Whilst Sub-Lingual Immunotherapy ( = SLIT) is a fairly recent innovation for Australia, as it has only recently gained widespread adoption and routine clinical usage, in Europe the Allergen Immunotherapy Tablet ( = AIT) has been formally registered with the medical regulatory authorities for the past two years and is gaining broad acceptance in several geographical markets.

As this AIT product is not registered with Australian Therapeutic Gods Administration ( = TGA) then it may not be promoted, including stating the product name, to the Australian public.

The first such registered Allergen Immunotherapy Tablet was manufactured and marketed by ALK-Abello, and is now registered in 24 European countries under the Mutual Recognition Agreement between European regulatory authorities.

The AIT is therefore most usually prescribed by Family Practitioners to treat simple cases of Hay Fever.

This vaccine is 100% Timothy Grass Phleum pratense purified major allergen, and indicated for the treatment of European Grass allergy.

This is the first pharmaceutical Tablet Immunotherapy Vaccine to have undergone the extremely rigorous multi-national registration program, and is approved for both adult and paediatric patients.

In several countries this AIT is partly or fully subsidised by state health authorities, thus making the otherwise expensive treatment attainable to the public. The cost in Europe is approximately three Euros = A$5 per day, so A$1,800 per annum. That is therefore approximately twice the cost of SLIT Drops immunotherapy.

Further ALK-Abello Tablet Vaccine allergens are under active development, specifically Mite, Birch, Cat, Ragweed, Parietaria, etc.

The Tablets are also known by many medical practitioners as a form of Sub-Lingual Immunotherapy, as the tablet is in effect a lyophilised form of the drops, and is held under the tongue where it dissolves immediately.

This AIT product can be made available to Australian prescribing doctors, supplied to a Named Doctor for a Named Patient.
